چکیده

The novel electrohydrodynamically-assisted electrostatic precipitator (EHD ESP) was developed to suppress particle reentrainment for collection of low resistive diesel particulates. The collection efficiency was compared between vertically and horizontally oriented electrodes of the EHD ESP using 400 cc diesel engine. The particle size dependent collection efficiency was evaluated for the particle size ranging in 20 to 5,000 nm using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) and a particle counter (PC). Both horizontally and vertically oriented EHD ESP showed an excellent suppression of particle reentrainment. However, the horizontally oriented electrode EHD ESP showed significantly improved for the particle size of 300-500 nm in comparison with vertically oriented electrode EHD ESP, resulting in more than 90% collection efficiency for all particle size range. The EHD ESP has high potential especially for highly concentrated marine diesel engine emission control.

Novel EHD-Assisted ESP for Collection of Low Resistive Diesel Particulates

The novel electrohydrodynamically-assisted electrostatic precipitator (EHD ESP) was developed to suppress particle reentrainment for collection of low resistive diesel particulates. The collection efficiency was compared between the EHD ESP and the conventional ESP using two large diesel engines; 2.3 L and 3.2 L engines. The gas velocity was varied in the range of 1.35 to 7.3 m/s and the load w...

Diesel PM Collection for Marine Emissions Using Double Cylinder Type Electrostatic Precipitator

Low resistive particulate matter (PM) generated from marine engines or diesel generators has been known to be difficult to collect by the conventional electrostatic precipitators (ESP). In the present study, the double-cylinder type ESP (DC ESP) was developed to remove low resistive diesel exhaust particles. Two ESPs, namely, the conventional singlecylinder type ESP (SC ESP ) and DC ESP were in...

Performance of High Velocity Electrostatic Precipitator for Road Tunnel

The particles emitted from diesel engine exhaust have low resistivity and extremely small in the range of 70-120nm. An electrostatic precipitator (ESP) has been extensively used for the collection of these particles. A two-stage ESP using charging section and collection section has been installed for the collection of diesel particles and improving the visibility index in road tunnels. The char...

Local Deposition of Particles in a Laboratory-Scale Electrostatic Precipitator with Barbed Discharge Electrodes

The precipitation of particles in an electrostatic precipitator (ESP) results in striking dust patterns at the collecting electrodes, strongly depending on forces of the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) field in the duct. Due to precipitator geometry, electrical operation status, and process parameters, areas of high and low dust density are visible. Since latest results show a direct correlation of p...

Development of a resistive soot sensor

This paper is a comprehensive study dealing with the parameters that influence the response of a resistive soot sensor which was developed for Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) failure detection in a past project. From the conductance measurement between two Pt electrodes, and a regeneration strategy, this kind of sensor can provide the weight concentration of particulate matter (PM). In this stu...
